Pure Reason Revolution Gig Review

Venue: Soundhaus, Northampton        Date: Wednesday 19 October 2005

More than halfway through their current tour, Pure Reason Revolution have made a few friends and opened many eyes up and down the country. After the fine release of their debut mini-album "Cautionary Tales For The Brave", the band consists of Jon Courtney (vocals/guitar/keyboards) Chloe Alper (bass/vocals/keyboards) James Dobson (keyboards/guitar/bass/vocals/violin) Jamie Willcox (vocals/guitar) and Andrew Courtney (drums).

The opening song, "Aeropause", which has the early Floyd sound, had Jamie Willcox in the sitting position with his guitar on his lap playing a nice slide while the other members soon embraced the sound with their instruments.  Further into the set "In Aurelia", which is the first track on the album, had three guitars in full view, while "The Bright Ambassadors Of The Morning" shone through and got the biggest response from the small but pleasing crowd.  On that track, the four part harmonies are worth noting, while the instrumental passages just drip with Yes, Floyd and Renaissance before the almighty thunder from the Led Zeppelin influenced power chords bring the whole twelve minutes to a climax.

Another fine song "Voices Of Winter" was for me the highlight of tonight's set.  It shone through and warmed the crowd with, again, some fine individual performances from each of the members. The set ended with "The Intention Craft", which is to be the band's next single. This song put a huge smile on many peoples faces.

Yet again another fine performance from this band, and for me, the future looks very good indeed for this awesome quintet.
