Steve Thorne Gig Reviews

Venue: The Mean Fiddler, London        Date: 30th June, 2005

Set List:  God Bless America; Well Outta That; Ten Years; All The Wise Men; Julia; Last Line; Therapy

This was a new audience for Steve Thorne to play his own brand of music to, and a healthy crowd it was to.

At 7.30pm Steve came on stage to a polite round of applause and went straight into "God bless America", from his critically acclaimed debut studio album, "Emotional Creatures: Part One". The sound was very good, as it normally is at the Mean Fiddler, and the crowd responded with enthusiastic applause at the end of the track.

Since time was limited there was no time for idle chat in-between songs, so Steve launched straight into "Well Outta That", quickly followed by "Ten Years".  He looked as though he was enjoying himself on stage, singing and playing with a passion which the crowd warmed to.

A new track came up next, "All the wise men", which I assume will be on the next album.  This piece was well received and it was nice to hear the applause get louder with each successive song.  Steve was certainly winning the crowd over.

"Julia" and "Last Line" came next followed by the announcement that the next song, "Therapy" was to be the last of the set. This was a shame since everyone was enjoying the show. The track played out to a huge ovation from the enthusiastic crowd.

The set had been quite short, only around 30 minutes long, but in that brief time Steve had made a lot of new friends and hopefully this will help to boost sales of his album

Since this had only been a support slot, I felt this was a great performance in front of a crowd that had for the most part probably not heard Steve's music before.  As I was leaving the venue it was nice to see a crowd of people at the merchandise stand talking to Steve and getting him to sign copies of the CD.

To summarise I thought it was a very successful night for Steve Thorne and his music and on the strength of this show I would certainly not hesitate to go and see Steve play live again.
