It's been a long while since I last posted any editorial comment on the site, over a year in fact, and in that time much has happened, some good, some not so good, but still New Horizons sails on regardless on a true course. I admit that I am still finding it hard to balance the demands of trying to run a useful and informative website, with the demands of trying to actually have a life of my own, and there have been times when I have felt like walking away from it all, but there is still life in the site yet and the time has not yet come to call it a day. I also find it hard to believe that the site has now been running for just over 10 years, and while it has not always been easy to keep things going, I remain eternally greatful to the support I have had from artists and readers alike and to the many many friends I have made along the way. I am thinking that I will probably take a short break over the festive season to recharge the batteries (probably the last 2 weeks of December and the first week in January) but in the new year I hope to start posting a series of short reviews covering some of the backlog of great material that I just have not had the time to cover for you in depth over the last 12 months. I have threatened several times in the past a redesign of the site, but again time is against me on this and it has not happened yet. I do intend to overhaul the front page soon as we appear to have lost some of our previous award links, but other than that I think now things are probably best as they are for the time being - if it ain't broke don't fix it! I'll be back with a further update before we break for the New Year but for now it's time to press on regardless! Simon EDITORIAL 28/09/08 Well, it has not all been plain sailing lately, as those of you who follow our news pages will no doubt have noticed, but we made it through in the end and managed to get things back on course. Now though me hearties, it's time for the good ship New Horizons to put in to port and furl the sails for a few weeks shore leave as we head off on the road witrh our old mates in Pendragon. For the next two and a half weeks I'll be swapping my trusty PC keyboard for the keyboards of Mr Clive Nolan as I join the Pendragon crew for a thrilling tour around Europe as the bands keyboard roadie! Please feel free to come and say hello if you attend one of the shows up to the Rome gig - at which point I shall be heading back to the UK and leaving the band to finish the tour without me! Sadly I cannot be there for the whole duration as work commitments mean I have to be back in the UK for October 20th. This means that the next definite site update will take place on the weekend of October 28th, although if I am back in good time the previous weekend I may attempt a small news update just to get things moving again. If I don't see you on the road, I hope you'll join us here at on the New Horizons web site next month - until then the best of luck to you all! Simon EDITORIAL 13/05/07 Once again just a quick word regarding CD reviews. Regular readers to the site will have noticed a major slackening off in the CD reviews department of late - this is not because of any particular shortage of worthy material, but relates more to a shortage of time on my part since I am pretty much running everything on my own at the moment. As a result of lot of music is coming to my attention and being missed altogether by the site - in order to rectify this I am hoping to start writing short CD reviews which rather than giving an in depth track by track analysis will provide an introduction to the band followed by a much briefer overview of the music and any major points relating to the CD. I feel this approach, while not perfect, will at least mean our readers are given basic information regarding some of the music available, which is infinitely preferable to being told nothing at all. A previous poll of our readers indicated that most people would be happy with this move, until now I just have not had the time to implement it. Hopefully on the next week or two some CD reviews should start to trickle through once again, and once I get things up and running we can return to running regular CD reviews once again! If you are a musician and have previously submitted music for review which failed to show up, please accept my apologies and also drop me an e-mail at musicreview@elrose.demon.co.uk and I'll see if I can run a retrospective review. Simon
